Fancy Plastic Cutlery
This set of plastic cutlery looks like it’s been dipped in chrome. It looks a lot nicer than regular black/white/clear plastic utensils. But, it still feels like plastic utensils. I would say the weight and strength is comparable to regular plastic utensils and not the heavy duty variety. The forks had difficulty lifting larger hunks of barbecued meats as the handles would bend. None snapped under pressure of normal use though.
Initially, I was afraid that the metal would chip off and end up in the food but that didn’t happen. I even washed a couple with a scrubby sponge and was pleased that they help up wonderfully–no chips or scratches. Thus, I was satisfied that there would be no metal flakes in my food or the food I serve to guests.
My guests enjoyed these utensils and liked the way they looked. Some were even hesitant to throw them away. I would buy them again for nicer get-togethers, birthdays, showers or afternoon tea. I would not use them for really casual backyard…
High-class plastic-ware!
Nice looking stuff, for sure. However, I was immediately confused as to why there were 16 forks and only 8 knives and spoons. Why not an equal number of each?
They are lightweight and cleanable, which is nice. However, they are not recyclable according to the package. I’m not a fan of disposable plasticware, but every now and again, you have to use it (who wants to wash 20 sets of silverware? Or rather, who HAS 20 sets of silverware?).
The cost is a little high ($6) considering the # of pieces you get, but I guess that’s due to the fancy-ness.
Being that these are made in China and had a kind of weird plastic-y smell to them, I was a little leary of using them, but so far, no one’s died. They are reusable, so I’ll keep them as long as I can.
~ Not perfect, but still tres chic ~
Fun way to dress up casual parties.
Coating. The “silverware” arrived with some surface scratches, which actually made it look more real. Without close inspection, they do look like real silverware.
Midgrade quality. They show fingerprints easily. Not the kind that actually bends, but not quite as sturdy as the clear ones you see commonly these days (the kind you can wash and reuse over and over). For an experiment, I put the Mosaik spoon in with my regular silverware in the dishwasher. When I went to pull it out, it was hard to find! It looks so real. The result of dishwashing on this plasticware spoon? It’s not scratched and looks like new.
All in all, these are pretty and would fabulous at any kind of party where watching silverware is not preferred.
