Alternative to plastics–Forks in the road
I never thought that I would write a review about biodegradable cutlery. But then again, by being part of the Vine project, I get to review a lot interesting things.
The first thing that made me skeptical about how environmentally sound this product was, was that it was packed and shipped separately from the rest of the order: the 24 count biodegradable cutlery packaged in a small, 4.25 x 6 x 1.5 inch box arrived packaged with newsprint and stuffed in the corner of a huge 19 x 16 x 5 inch box.
A quick perusal of the box revealed that the item, though manufactured for a company in the USA, was made in China. This tiny box had already traveled half way around the world to Stalk Market products in Portland, Oregon. It then shipped to Amazon. Now it shipped to me. So far, the whole process had expanded my carbon footprint to clown like proportions. However, when you buy this through Amazon you get a bulk order of 24 boxes which may make shipping more…
Very Sturdy and Earth-Friendly
Product Overview: These plastic utensils are made from natural plant starch. The box contains eight spoons, eight forks, and eight knives, all of which are biodegradable (ironically, Amazon shipped this small box in a box large enough to hold a briefcase!) These plastic utensils are a bit smaller than other plastic utensils I’ve used and the handles could be longer. They felt a bit oily to me but are quite sturdy.
Forks: These were some of the strongest plastic forks that I’ve used. I like my food to be extremely hot when eating it and I’ve been known to stick my plate in the microwave halfway through a meal just to warm the food up. At times when I’ve tried using a plastic fork after heating a meal in the microwave, the tines have folded up, unable to handle the heat, and making it hard to use the forks. These tines did not bend when touching extremely hot food, a plus for me.
Knives: Again, these are very sturdy. They cut anything I used them on – steaks,…
Jaya Helps Protect The Environment in a Soft Way
Jaya Biodegradable Cutlery is an alternative to plastic cutlery and it makes a great choice for those who want to reduce the impact that their day to day lives have on the environment. This cutlery is sold in a box of 24, which includes an equal number of knives, forks, and spoons that sport an off white/yellowish color.
The main reason consumers will want to consider this cutlery is, of course, because of the manufacturing. Jaya is made using natural plant starch that is biodegradable and therefore earth- friendly. You won’t have to worry about the harmful effects from using petroleum- based plastic. This cutlery is designed to decompose and return itself to the earth without causing environmental harm. This fact, alone, will convince many consumers to give this cutlery a try and this is certainly reason enough to consider replacing your plastic cutlery with the Jaya brand.
As much as I like to help reduce environmental problems, I still had to examine this…
