Cooper-Atkins DTT361-0-8 Digital Cooking Thermo-Timer with Alarm and Thermometer Probe, -32 to 392 degrees F Temperature Range

Three years and going strong

I got this for Christmas 3yrs ago after trying to get readings for a Thanksgiving turkey, my husband saw my frustration and got this for me.

It’s a relatively utilitarian look, which I do not mind. The reader has worked well although I don’t use it very frequently (a few times a year). I never thought there would be reliability issues until I read reviews of other thermo-timers and am grateful I haven’t run into any problems, yet.

I use this for turkey, chicken and some other baking items and have had no issues yet. I also haven’t had to replace the batteries yet. I do use it as a timer so it’s not completely dormant throughout the rest of the year.

Pros:

- Reliable so far

- Timer function

- Clock

- Magnetized seat so you can stick it outside your oven and save counter space

- For those without any metal to stick to, there is a little lever you can flip down to sit on the counter after lifting from the backing

- Easy…

Where is the off switch?

I recently purchased this from a local supplier and paid 38 bucks for it. It’s small enough to fit in a shirt pocket. It is easy to use and set up.

PROS

Numbers are large enough to be easily read. It comes with a magnetic mounting bracket which comes in handy and it also has a fold out bracket if you wish to have it standing upright on a counter or flat surface. It is easy to set the time, timer and alert temp.

CONS

The paper work that comes with this is dismally insufficient. You can’t use this in temps that exceed 392F or the wires in the temp probe will melt. It’s accuracy could be better. It is accurate to plus or minus 4 degrees F. The biggest reason why I gave it 2 stars is because it does not have an off switch and nothing in the paper work mentions how to shut it off. If it had an off switch I would of given it 4 stars. When I am done using it I pull the battery out and store it all in a ziplock bag.

I do not recommend…

Nice features but accuracy not good

Bought two, both read about the same temps, but see the note on accuracy below.

Pros:

All features easily accessible with a button push or slide switch. No menus or cycling through difficult to remember settings.

Alarm (enabled or disabled with a switch) is wonderfully abrasive and persistent. They made sure you won’t miss that critical temperature event.

C/F selector switch easily accessible on back. Not something used often, but better than having it buried in the battery compartment like some other models.

Built-in timer is a nice add-on, but superfluous when cooking to temperature. Perhaps it will be handy one day for something.

The probes are nicely sealed against moisture which has killed all of our other digital cooking thermometers. They have a heat-resistant (silicone I think) sheath over the wire and a molded seal around the top of the probe where the wire enters. I’m guessing this will enhance longevity…
