Cold Steel Mini Tac Skinner Black G-10 Handle

Perfect

Very well made, good firm grip in the hand, sharp, good steel. Sheath is a molded plastic, passive retention- great- has eyelets around all the edges. Laced 550 cord through it, and wear it horizontally on my belt, front left side- handle is about at my belt buckle. Lays flat, unnoticeable, fast unsheath… practical. Never tried to wear it as a necklace.

As a skinner or a hold out style fixed-blade, this knife succeeds

This is a cheap, sharp, sturdily constructed knife. It’s not a super big fighting knife with lots of reach or a survival knife with batoning capabilities, either. It’s a so light that you barely notice it’s there, knife. Or it’s a gutting an animal knife, just like it says it is. The skeletonized, full-tang handles are covered in high-traction G-10. The handle shape in conjunction with the G-10 makes the knife lock up perfectly solid in hand. The gimping is adequate/present. The highly curved portion of the blade makes it a generally useful blade-shape for most tasks, though perhaps a tanto blade shape would be better for food prep or the beaver tail version would be a more useful blade shape for utility tasks or spreading. However, the acute point makes for a good piercer. Word of warning for those with plentiful chest hair: wearing a neck knife with a beaded…

Nice Little Knife

Really good knife. It was sharp out of the box, but after a little touch-up was above average sharp! The kydex sheath that comes with it is very nice, very rugged,as well. For those inclined to do so, I will opine that it initially seems a bit too heavy and bulky for wear as a neck knife. Once, however, you get used to wearing it that way, you won’t even notice that it’s there. The occasional camp, kitchen and/or fishing chore is how I best envision using this knife.

Cold Steel generally puts out high quality products, and I thought the price was fair enough to take a chance on purchasing the Mini Tac Skinner even if I have no honest-to-goodness practical everyday use for it. One simply cannot go wrong with the molded textured handle, and the fact that it has a full tang for added toughness and durability, well..this little jewel just screams out loud and clear “Buy me!”

Sometimes we don’t need a reason to buy something impractical for our individual needs–we…
