Birchware Compostable Wooden Spoons 100/pcs.

Spoon?.. More Like Spatula

I purchased these recently, they ended up being 8 cents a piece (not super cheap, but not bad). They are very shallow. When placed in hot liquid they flatten out even more (to the point where it is impossible to differentiate either side of the “spoon”). It is still possible to eat food with them, so I will continue to use them until they are gone. The concept was great, but they should have used more wood to make a deeper spoon. They are made in China, if that raises any food safety concern for anyone… (the package says no glazes were used, but you never know what may be leached into your food…)

For cold food, they will work well. Wood is great, better than both petroleum and non-petrol based plastics in my opinion. I would not recommend this specific product, but I would highly recommend the idea.

Not impressed.

Recyclable, compostable cutlery is a fantastic idea but these items change their shape and become more difficult to use after they get moist.

Maybe a stirrer, but not a spoon

The spoons are practically flat. When eating cereal or soup, you can barely get any liquid in the spoon. This may work as a coffee stirrer, but you can use much less wood for a coffee stirrer.

To add to the problem, they feel terrible against your mouth. It gives me chills just thinking about it.
