It’s OK but it has its issues
This is a cool tool but the whole unit sits down into the disposal throat (the top of the knob is about level with the sink, so you can put pots and plates over it and they’ll sit flat) but the little knob you grab to lift it out is quite tiny and difficult to grip. If they made the knob larger I’d give it a 5, but for now, I’ll stick with the other unit I bought at the same time, the Norpro 92 Super Stuffer.
Pays for itself in saved flatware and disposals
Before the Disposal Genie I had dropped and ruined 1 mediocre and 2 nice spoons and forks. I also had a guest drop in a small plastic part from a kitchen utensil which jammed and cracked the disposal unit requiring a $130 replacement purchase. ouch.
I’ve had the Disposal Genie for over a year now and it still looks good. The plastic is solid but not so hard that it cracks. It can get a little scummy but it’s easy to throw in the dishwasher now and then for a quick clean and disinfect. The scraper is a softer plastic. It’s an added bonus that works amazingly well scraping down cast iron pans.
It’s only September, but I’m considering getting them as stocking-stuffers for family with garbage disposals and kids.
Best Kitchen Gadget EVER
The garbage disposal works with this in place. The best kitchen gadget ever, have bought one for all my family members.
Every kitchen should have one.
